Dear Minister Ambrose,

I am writing to ask you to keep genetically modified (GM) 2,4-D- and
dicamba-tolerant crops off the market in Canada.

Health Canada has approved corn and soy that are genetically engineered to
be tolerant to the herbicides 2,4-D and dicamba, but these products will
increase the use of herbicides in Canada.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency did not assess the full, long-term
environmental impacts of the herbicide increase expected with these crops.
This increase poses risks to the health of Canadians.

The US Department of Agriculture says that approval of 2,4-D-tolerant corn
and soybeans will lead to a 2 to 7 fold increase in agricultural use of
2,4-D by 2020. Did you assess the impacts of this dramatic increase?

I ask you to stop these new GM herbicide-tolerant crops from being put on
the market, and to start a review of all the regulations for GM foods and
crops.

Thank you for your attention to this urgent and serious matter. I look
forward to your prompt response.
Geraldine Hunt
